Maintenance & care

Leather is a natural product
All leather products at BEARLifestyle.nl are made of high quality leather that is four times as strong as textile. However, leather is and remains a natural product. A bag and wallet go through every day through wind and weather and have to endure a lot. Over time, the leather goods will therefore show signs of use. Due to use and influences of the weather, the leather can become darker or lighter. Leather is also sensitive to small scratches and stains. In addition, a bag, belt or wallet made of leather can feel stiff and stiff in the beginning. In use, this will become smoother and it will only become more beautiful. You will see that the leather starts to live, as it were.

Each leather product is unique
Because leather is a natural product, the leather of two products will never be identical. Leather is made from animal skins. Such an animal walks through wind and weather, through the grass and past thorn bushes, is bitten by insects and sometimes rubs itself against a fence for a nice scratch. This is reflected in the skin and therefore also in the leather your bag or wallet is made of. This is precisely the charm of a genuine leather product; it makes your bag, wallet and more unique.

Leather can deliver
Just as a new sofa can give off, this sometimes also happens with the leather of our bags and wallets. Oiled leather and leather with bright colors are particularly susceptible to this. It is therefore possible that a bag or wallet will leave some traces on light clothing. Tired of a product that gives off? Then use a dry (old) cloth and gently and carefully rub it out. A protection spray can help prevent stains in your clothing.

Zippers
Bear products use plastic zippers and metal zippers. Metal zippers are stronger than plastic zippers and have a longer lifespan. On the other hand, metal zippers are heavier and can be stiffer, especially in the beginning. Is the zipper difficult to open and close? Grate a candle over the zipper and it will run smoother. Don't force a zipper or pull through if the zipper won't go any further. Then the zipper and the lining of a bag or wallet will break less quickly.

General care

A leather bag needs little care. Use and weather influences ensure that the leather only becomes more beautiful and comes to life. We recommend rubbing your bag 1 to 2 times a year with a dry to slightly damp clean cloth.

The best way to treat stains is to dab the stain with a dry to slightly damp cloth. Rubbing or scrubbing can cause the stain to rub into the leather or cause the stain to spread, especially grease stains. Never use strong chemical or strong detergents on leather products to clean a stain.

Do you want to protect your bag or wallet against rain, wind and signs of wear and ensure that it lasts as long as possible? Then you can use leather protection products.

Leather protection spray
Leather spray protects the leather against dirt, water and other external influences. Leather spray exists for different types of leather, so check the packaging carefully to see if you are using the right spray for the leather type of your bag. When using leather spray, it is important to spray lightly over the bag or wallet, keeping a distance of 20 to 30 cm (or as stated on the packaging). Then let it dry thoroughly overnight. Leather spray exists in transparent and colored variants, we recommend using a transparent spray, so that no color difference arises. We have four different care products, including sprays:

Leather wash
Leather wax protects the leather against dirt, water and other external influences. Leather wax is comparable to leather spray, but in a spreadable form. Leather wax exists in transparent and colored variants, we recommend using a transparent wax, so that no color difference arises.

Leather grease/leather oil
If the leather feels dry and/or you want to revive the color of the product, you can grease it with leather grease. Leather grease exists in transparent and colored variants, we recommend using a transparent grease, so that no color difference arises. Be sparing in the use of leather fat. Too much leather fat can make the products too soft, causing them to lose their shape.

Care per type of leather

Smooth leather - Basic, FR, Andora & Roma collection
Products made of smooth, dyed leather require little maintenance. The bags and wallets are made of a closed leather with a smooth glossy or matte look. We recommend cleaning the products once or twice a year with a dry to slightly damp cloth. If you want to revive the color of your bag or wallet or refresh dried-out areas, it is best to treat the product lightly with leather grease.

Washed leather - Cow-Lavato & Milano-Justo collection
Products made of smooth, dyed leather require little maintenance. The bags and wallets are made of an open leather with a cloudy vintage look. We recommend cleaning the products once or twice a year with a dry to slightly damp cloth. If you want to revive the color of your bag or wallet or refresh dried-out areas, it is best to treat the product lightly with leather grease.

Waxed leather - Callisto-Pelle collection
Waxed leather products require little maintenance. The bags and wallets are made of an open solid-colored leather that is finished with a light wax coating. We recommend cleaning the products once or twice a year with a dry to slightly damp cloth. If you want to revive the color of your bag or wallet or refresh dried-out areas, it is best to treat the product lightly with leather grease.

Oiled leather - Dark Nature, Vegas and By Maaike collection
Oiled leather products need little attention, as the leather has already been oiled. In the beginning, this leather feels very stiff, but over time it becomes smoother and gets its own look. This leather really comes to life and becomes the most beautiful if you just leave it alone. Large stains are best treated with a dry to slightly damp cloth.

Leather with fur - Cow collection
For some products it has been decided to leave the fur on the leather. The result is a bag or wallet with a wonderfully soft cowhide. No product is the same due to the different fur drawings. In use, this cowhide can wear out and with heavy friction, bald spots can even occur. To prevent this, we advise you to spray the coat with a protection spray and to expose the coat to friction as little as possible. In short, don't wear a bag or wallet with fur the other way around, so that the skin rubs against clothing. Do you have a stain on the fur? Then gently clean it with a damp cloth. Do not use chemicals or other aggressive agents and do not grease the coat, that will only have the opposite effect.
