Warranty

BEAR
We stand behind the quality of our handmade bags, wallets, accessories and small leather goods. That’s why we offer a one-year warranty on our products. As long as they’re used with care, you have nothing to worry about!

Please note that wear to fur, linings and other signs of use resulting from daily wear and tear aren’t covered by the warranty. We also can’t cover damage caused by improper use. Zips aren’t covered by the warranty, including zips that come open or seams next to a zip that come undone.

We also cannot be held liable for any damage to personal belongings, such as clothing discolouration caused by a bag.

Care & maintenance

Leather is a natural product
All leather products at BEARLifestyle.nl are made from high-quality leather that is up to four times stronger than textile. However, leather is and remains a natural product. A bag or wallet goes everywhere with you, whatever the weather, and gets a lot of use. Over time, leather goods will therefore show signs of wear. Use and exposure to the weather can make leather darker or lighter. Leather is also prone to small scratches and marks. A leather bag, belt or wallet may feel stiff and rigid at first. With use, it will naturally become more supple and only get better with age. You’ll see the leather come to life.

Every leather product is unique
Because leather is a natural product, no two leather items are ever identical. Leather is made from animal hides. Animals live outdoors in all kinds of weather, walk through grass and past thorn bushes, get bitten by insects and sometimes rub against a fence to scratch themselves. These marks are visible on the hide and therefore also on the leather used to make your bag or wallet. That’s part of the charm of a genuine leather product; it makes your bag, wallet and other items unique.

Leather may transfer colour
Just like a new sofa, the leather on our bags and wallets may sometimes transfer colour. Oiled leather and brightly coloured leather are particularly prone to this. A bag or wallet may therefore leave marks on light-coloured clothing. If your product is transferring colour, use a dry (old) cloth to rub the marks away gently and carefully. A protective spray can help prevent stains on your clothes.

Zips
Bear products use both plastic and metal zips. Metal zips are stronger than plastic ones and last longer. However, they’re heavier and can be stiffer to use at first. Is the zip difficult to open and close? Rub a candle over it to help it glide more smoothly. Don’t force a zip or keep pulling if it won’t move any further. This will help prevent damage to the zip and the lining of your bag or wallet.

General care

A leather bag requires little care. Use and exposure to the weather only make the leather look better and develop character. We recommend wiping your bag clean 1 to 2 times a year with a clean, dry or slightly damp cloth.

The best way to treat stains is to dab them with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Rubbing or scrubbing may work the stain into the leather or make it larger, especially with grease stains. Never use harsh chemicals or strong cleaning products to remove stains from leather goods.

Want to give your bag or wallet extra protection from rain, wind and signs of wear, and help it last as long as possible? You can use leather protection products.

Leather protection spray
Leather spray protects leather from dirt, water and other external factors. Different sprays are available for different types of leather, so check the packaging to make sure you’re using the right spray for your bag’s leather. When using leather spray, lightly spray the bag or wallet from a distance of 20 to 30 cm (or as stated on the packaging). Then leave it to dry thoroughly overnight. Leather sprays are available in clear and coloured versions. We recommend using a clear spray to avoid any change in colour. We offer four different care products, including sprays:

  4. Clean set

  5. Suede + nubuck protect
Because suede and nubuck have an open structure, water can easily soak in and dirt can cling to the surface. Suede + Nubuck Spray impregnates the bag, preventing water and dirt from getting in.
Protect and care for your bag with colour activation, which is also included in the colourless spray to help colours stay vibrant for longer. This spray is ideal for restoring the colour of suede and nubuck that has faded.

Leather wax
Leather wax protects leather from dirt, water and other external elements. It is similar to leather spray, but in a spreadable form. Leather wax is available in clear and coloured versions. We recommend using a clear wax to avoid changing the colour.

Leather grease/leather oil
If the leather feels dry and/or you want to restore the colour of the product, you can treat it with leather grease. Leather grease is available in clear and coloured versions. We recommend using a clear grease to avoid changing the colour. Use leather grease sparingly. Too much can make the products too soft, causing them to lose their shape.

Care by leather type

Smooth leather - Basic, FR, Andora & Roma collections
Products made from smooth, dyed leather require little maintenance. The bags and wallets are made from sealed leather with a uniform glossy or matte finish. We recommend wiping the products clean once or twice a year with a dry or slightly damp cloth. If you want to restore the colour of your bag or wallet or refresh dry patches, treat the product lightly with leather grease.

Washed leather - Cow-Lavato & Milano-Justo collections
Products made from smooth, dyed leather require little maintenance. The bags and wallets are made from open leather with a cloudy, vintage look. We recommend wiping the products clean once or twice a year with a dry or slightly damp cloth. If you want to restore the colour of your bag or wallet or refresh dry patches, treat the product lightly with leather grease.

Waxed leather - Callisto-Pelle collection
Products made from waxed leather require little maintenance. The bags and wallets are made from open, solid-coloured leather finished with a light layer of wax. We recommend wiping the products clean once or twice a year with a dry or slightly damp cloth. If you want to restore the colour of your bag or wallet or refresh dry patches, treat the product lightly with leather grease.

Oiled leather - Dark Nature, Vegas and By Maaike collections
Products made from oiled leather require little attention, as the leather has already been treated with oil. At first, this leather feels very stiff, but it becomes more supple over time and develops its own look. This leather truly comes to life, and looks its best when you simply leave it alone. Large stains are best treated with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Suede collections
Suede is beautiful, but also more delicate than leather. We recommend taking good care of these bags, as regular maintenance is essential.
We recommend treating all suede bags with Collonil suede + nubuck spray.
Repeat this monthly or after exposure to rain/moisture. Let the bag dry thoroughly after contact with moisture and, if possible, avoid carrying suede on rainy or damp days.

Leather with fur - Cow collection
Some products are made with the fur left on the leather. The result is a bag or wallet with a wonderfully soft cowhide finish. Each product is unique due to the different fur patterns. With use, the cowhide can wear down, and heavy friction can even cause bald patches. To prevent this, we recommend spraying the fur with a protective spray and exposing it to as little friction as possible. In short, don't wear a fur bag or wallet with the fur side against your clothes, as this can cause rubbing. Got a stain on the fur? Gently clean it with a damp cloth. Don't use chemicals or other harsh products, and don't apply grease to the fur, as this will only make things worse.
